Wallpaper Patterns - Some considerations when selecting wallpaper

1. Wallpaper Pattern - Scale

When shopping, keep pattern size in mind. A powder room is an excellent place to experiment because you can make a big impression in a small space. Save murals and large patterns for walls in bedrooms or dining rooms where the pattern can take centre stage.

2. Wallpaper Pattern - Horizontal Patterns

Horizontal patterns make a space appear larger. In older homes where the ceilings and walls may not be perfectly square, avoid horizontal patterns.

3. Wallpaper Pattern - Vertical Patterns

Vertical patterns make a room's ceiling appear higher and more expansive.

4. Wallpaper Pattern - Drop Patterns

A drop pattern is the most difficult to create because it requires proper vertical and horizontal alignment. This option will almost certainly necessitate the use of additional paper. If your room isn't perfectly square, a drop pattern is a good option, but it's a more difficult project for a beginner. Consult a professional if you are unsure.

Test It Out

Before hanging wallpaper patterns, it's a good idea to test them out. When shopping online, keep in mind that colours and pattern sizes may appear differently on a screen than on your walls.
